Safety First
If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.
Turn off your Heat Pump at the thermostat to allow the coil to thaw
Change the Heat Pump air filter as dirty filters are a common cause of coil freezing
Check Heat Pump airflow by verifying all registers are open and unobstructed
Allow the Heat Pump coil to thaw completely this may take several hours
Call for Heat Pump service if coils freeze again after thawing and addressing airflow
