Safety First
If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.
Check that the Heat Pump power switch is in the ON position and has not been accidentally turned off
Verify the Heat Pump circuit breaker has not tripped and reset if necessary
Check that your Heat Pump thermostat is set to heat or cool mode and the temperature setting is appropriate
Inspect the Heat Pump for any obvious signs of damage, leaking, or unusual odors
If the Heat Pump has a reset button, press it once and wait for the system to restart
If none of the above works, turn off the Heat Pump and call for emergency service immediately
